Dr. Yu Yue is the Assistant Centre Director for Infancy & Early Childhood Research at the Centre for Research in Child Development and an Education Research Scientist at the Singapore Centre For Character & Citizenship Education, National Institute of Education, Nanyang Technological University. He received a BS from Peking University and a PhD from Cornell University (PhD adviser: Tamar Kushnir). Yue studies children's development of 21st Century Competencies (21CC), such as curiosity, persistence, challenge-seeking, intellectual humility, and social-emotional competencies (SECs). He also studies how the development of 21CC is influenced by children's early environments, such as parenting, formal and informal education, and cultural values. He currently leads the BE POSITIVE study and its follow-up, which are longitudinal cohort studies examining how early environments affect children's development of 21CC. His research is funded by multiple sources, including the Singapore Ministry of Education, the John Templeton Foundation, and the Templeton World Charity Foundation.
Yue has authored over 40 scholarly publications, including articles in top developmental journals (e.g., Child Development, Developmental Science, Developmental Psychology) as well as journals aimed at a broader audience (e.g., Open Mind, Scientific Reports, Topics in Cognitive Science). He currently serves as an Associate Editor for Asia Pacific Journal of Education, a Consulting Editor for Journal of Experimental Psychology: General, and a Guest Editor for a special issue in Infant and Child Development.
